Learning Revit

An exercise in a leading tool of the space design industry

I had an opportunity to look learn a new tool to further my education, and I took this opportunity to learn Revit. It was an awesome process where I got learn how to think differently about modeling. Revit really is an incredible program that, at first does not seem intuitive, but it makes sense for modeling structures. The building I modeled here was a combination of office, employee benefit space (like a gym and locker room), and a storage garage. Now I would like to walk you through how I learned this program.

I began with a tutorial that walked me through the basics, how to navigate, build walls, roofs, floors, and populate it with furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc.

Next I began to model, my own building, starting with the walls and foundation and working inward and upward.

Starting below you can see where I had started to add the roofs and the glass-house section of the building, making odd shaped roofs and attaching different walls together

Here I begin adding the glass.

At this point I have taken the project as far as I will go for now due to time constraints. I have polished the glass house and added sidewalks, and some other exterior features that contribute to the function of the building.

After All that I rendered it in Lumion. I was able to add people, vehicles, and landscaping which help bring the environment alive. Revit is a great program and I would love to keep learning more and get more experience in modeling interiors.
